Féanör, yes Feanor. The worst of the best of the Children of Arda. Tolkien goes on a long list of his fantastic qualities, basically stating that he was the most perfect of any person who ever lived, well, elf. Since this is in the First Age, this really saying something since even Finrod, when first seen by men is at first taken for a god. And that is just Feanor’s nephew! So of all this impressive race of undying, superhuman beings, Feanor is the most impressive and superhuman of any elf or man yet born, as well as any that should come after. The absolute pinnacle of elvish power.
Of course, all these qualifications necessitated that I make him look like a witch! Tolkien makes a point of going over Feanor’s list of ‘greatest of’s: courage, beauty, intelligence, wisdom, etc. and he makes sure to put in stature, physical strength, and endurance. Feanor is NOT a twee little fairy elf, but a powerhouse right out of a medieval Faerie story. Nearly all of
Feanor’s gifts or crafts are associated with light or crystal, especially the enchanting, awe-inspiring Silmarils; the most beautiful things ever made, which glowed with the light of the Two Trees, the most beautiful things to have ever grown. However he was the first to craft deadly weapons…
