Looks like my school's mascot, Boxer, which is, well, a Boxer. Sort of similar to a Qilin.

So first off Joe, I work at the OCCC (Orange County Convention Center) and must say that San Diego is the 21st largest convention center in North America. The OCCC is 2nd. As a comparison, the San Diego Convention Center has a total gross square footage (meeting rooms, concourses, exhibit halls, ballrooms, service corridors, bathrooms, etc) of 2.5 million. The OCCC has 2.1 million sq ft of exhibit hall space.

Now I understand your view because the actual show Comic Con is probably 5 times (at least) as big as MegaCon...but that is because MegaCon is a VERY small show in our building.

I'm sure you enjoyed yourself as the show looked awesome (on TV)...and while I don't know half the people you spoke of, I'm glad you got to see/meet them! Sounded like an awesome trip!

To Ed Howard

My comment on what felt was unnecessary censorship, specifically the burning pile of bills problem, was not about my desire for violence or bloodshed, but about my desire for consistency. If he's put on that pile and the pile then burned, but we hear and see no repercussions to him, we SHOULD wonder, "what happened?". That's my main beef, I read you blog on the rest of the critique of violence and I myself find the trend in gratuitous torture films, such as Saw, The Hills Have Eyes, and Hostel to be creatively repugnant. Violence for violence sake is unnecessary and offensive. I just wanted to know why they forgot they left the guy up there. It is insulting to the audience to assume we wouldn't notice such a editing mistake! But, personally, I agree with your comment on the effectiveness in suggestive violence. Its just too bad they forgot to suggest something.

Bravo, good review. I point to the another Joe's persepective from the not a comic book guru point of view: http://d0d0joe.wordpress.com

Anyway, I have to say I judge movies based on whether or not I was entertained. And I thoroughly was with Batman. I mean I'm a HUGE Batman fan, but not a fan boy(girl) who knows it all. I just love Batman. I did laugh out loud EVERY time Batman "spoke" it was ridiculous. I still make fun of his "I'm Batman" growl from the first movie. This was just ridiculous! I wasn't too thrilled with Gyllenhaal's performance, it left much to be desired. She had big shoes to fill as Katie Holmes (now appearing only in movies with aliens) played Rachel in the first movie. She was also the luckiest ugly girl alive to make out with Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent in the same night! I like her because she looks like an average girl next door, not some fake Hollywood pin up, but for the first time her acting fell short for me. I also think they could have led up tot he next movie a little better. I'm not sure if they were trying to avoid Spiderman's terrible job or cutting the movie or had limited reel.

I was MAJORLY disappointed that after they splashed The Dark Night on the screen they didn't follow it immediately with a In Memory of. That was CRAP. Heath Ledger did such a FANTASTIC job! Carried the movie almost and no recognition of his passing! BOOO!

It's funny, yet another review that cites the film's restraint in depicting violence as a negative. I took exception to the critic Keith Uhlich's negative review of the film for wanting to see more of the violence happen onscreen, and posted my own essay about the film's treatment of violence and mortality:

I'm the first to comment! YAY!

I enjoyed this movie. Not as much as Iron Man though. I thought Ed Norton did a great job. And the CG wasn't too terrible. Though that could change on DVD.

Nice review Luby.
